If you own a company they can't just leave. M$ sold Bungie back to itself. They could have just as easily said "eff that, we're keeping you," but it would have made a lot of bad blood with some of the best developers in the biz.

"and the recent spike we've seen in US numbers probably has more to do with the price cut on old consoles then it does with the limited quantities of the 360s that are available."

maybe last month. The S has been out for 2 months, and the sales are only going up. If it were more isolated to June, then maybe you'd have a larger point, but there's little evidence that 360S's are not selling.

Since the launch of the S, the worldwide sal...

@"Adding features to stay competitive is no different than removing them."

Quoted for idiocy. I'm seriously dumbfounded how someone can say that and mean it.

I was going to say this to the guy under you, but u hit it already.

M$ missed a huge opportunity not buying bioware. what fools.

One thing that's probably under-rated is that this is Bungie's LAST halo game (at least for a good long while). Even if someone didn't really like halo they'd probably buy it just to be able to play their last hurrah on the series.

This is the culmination of almost 2 decades of development on one of the most successful franchises in the world. The beta alone had over 1 million players day one.

there's also not a huge amount of competition....

yes they do. Ever console manufacturer makes money off of every game sold on their system. It's how it works.

why would you not spend that much if you make all the money back and then some because of it?

he means investing in the existing product. Having an amazing product does not equal amazing sales. I wouldn't have even known God of War launched if I didn't come to N4G.

I'm sure sony would more than make up the cost if they actually advertised their games like M$ does.

actually it's walmart this year. Check the fortune 500 listings for 2010.

M$ doesn't market to you or me. We'll buy or not buy it regardless of the marketing because we are informed consumers. They market to the other 6.19999 billion people on the planet.

This article is not entirely true. Each firmware update will have certain error conditions that it usually protects itself from (ex. if someone does something a certain way or has a certain history it would normally cause an error, but the firmware will write the data or handle the error as it happens so that the error won't happen). When the firmware updates, it's introduced to old data that could potentially already have errors for the new firmware written into it.

@"Remember guys, devs look at software attach rates"

no they don't. They look at sales. Period. Selling 20 million copies of a game to a console with 500 million console sales will still make you more money than selling 5 copies of a game to a console with 5 consoles sold.

Halo doesn't work with just a bunch of players. It loses the super-soldier feel and just turns into a great big clusterfuck. Even big team battle in halo 2 felt like a huge clusterfuck sometimes on its biggest maps and I think that was just 8v8.

The thing that makes Halo's multiplayer good is that they put so much time into balancing what's there and still keep a lot of variety in playstyles without having to invest hours at a time.

Dude. it's a PS3 game. It has no flaws, looks better than real life, and the gameplay is like getting a cumshot from Jesus. You should know this.

I will give credit to crackdown/2 in that their demo system is near perfect for a sandbox game. Start you in a place at the beginning of a set of story missions, but you're free to skip them and just spend your time jumping around the city if you so choose.

The one game type that works for timed demos.

value has nothing to do with being expensive or not. A $100,000 lamborghini gallardo is great value for your buck. It's still expensive.

I'd worry more about games this holiday and get the motion controllers next summer unless I got them as a gift or found a great sale tbh. There's too many good non-motion games.
